The Ride: Welcome to my blog...

The blog's namesake comes from the Calvin and Hobbes comic strip by Bill Watterson. Often, Calvin and Hobbes will board a wagon or, weather permitting, a sled and plummet down steep hillsides. They converse about the realities of existence as they make their physical and metaphorical journey. In this blog I intend to do the same thing: to wade through the crap and address the truth in life. Nothing is off limits here; from entertainment to news to anything else I want to talk about. You can't be still on a moving toboggan. The ride might be scary at times but keep those eyes open and you'll be surprised what you see.

I hope you enjoy reading my blog as much as I do writing it!

How Do I Hate Thee? Let Me Count the Ways...

In order to maintain a certain level of appropriateness, I am going to keep this fairly brief and let "Metta World Peace"'s actions speak for themselves. You must have heard by now, Ron Artest of the Los Angeles Lakers has officially changed his name to Metta World Peace. In the last year, Artest has, apparently, been an outspoken supporter for mental health awareness or something and they gave him an award. Maybe they should have given him some medication. Fitting that Artest brings awareness to mental instability as it seems to be his most predominant quality. Given all the attention he draws to himself, maybe charity work is as simple as that. Of course, I suppose expectations are lowered for an individual such as Ron. This name change is another form of raising awareness for people like Ron who suffer from, well, being really terrible people i guess. The name Ron Artest conjures images of dirty play, violent outbursts, and just downright awfulness. Someday, maybe our children will associate World Peace with just such images.
Lets hear a quote directly from Ron, "Metta is a Pali word meaning loving-kindness. Metta chanting is the radiation of loving-kindness towards all beings."
Ok... see for yourself. here's another quote from Ron that I find to be a bit more fitting, "I'm the worst basketball player in the world." That's more like it.
Take a walk down memory lane (or Nightmare Avenue in this case) as we look back on all Ron has done for the sake of World Peace.
Here are some links to youtube clips. please watch them so you can share my hatred. Thank you.

You almost can't blame him for changing his name. Even Ron Artest doesnt want to be Ron Artest.
